3 D might help to deal with perspective… I’m not an expert in that! Now busy drawing the 25 pages in light blue pencil.

Back to drawing
November 10, 2009 by lilichkaiaEventually back at my drawing table after several weeks of hard work for the organisation of a conference. Trying to get back to the boys playing. Looking for better ways to dispatch the balloons over the page, to drive the reader’s look through the squares… And I eventually received the Col-Erase blue pencils I ordered, Youpi!

Blue pencil
October 14, 2009 by lilichkaiaImpossible to find in Brussels those famous Col-Erase blue pencils… so I use the usual color pencils to trace the squares of the comics on the A3 25 pages… I’m not used to draw on big white pages, I feel a bit shy…

First page – researches
October 4, 2009 by lilichkaiaWhile Rommel went back after his journey to France to a city ravaged by floods, I went back to Brussels and started working again… Less time to focus on the comics, unfortunately. I rewrote the dialogues in French, changed a few pages of the storyboard and asked a few friends and relatives to give some feedback. Let’s see what comes out… In the meantime, I made a first attempt at drawing a page, testing the paper, the ink, the pasted patterns, etc…

Sketches for another character, the joker in Amelie’s story…

And some sketches for our board game, a detachable folded poster… In the middle of the book, between our two stories, the reader will find a game board we’ll invent. On a folded poster 4 to 8 times the size of the book, we’ll draw a game board based on the Game of the Goose. Each square of the game will reproduce elements of our two stories and a list aside will explain which rule corresponds to which image. Four drawings will illustrate the board, four small dialogues between the kids.
On a cardboard the size of the book, the reader will have the possibility to cut and paste two dices and four pawns representing our kids.

Last day
September 21, 2009 by lilichkaiaLast day of our very short residency in Angouleme. Thick fog all over the city. Amélie has just realized that her story board works better by adding another page and by changing the order of the double-pages. At this stage, one less, one more… what does it matter? However not convinced by the dialogues of this new page… Write and rewrite and rewriter… the never ending process of the story board…
Some pictures of our residency in Angoulême…
