Sketches for another character, the joker in Amelie’s story…

And some sketches for our board game, a detachable folded poster… In the middle of the book, between our two stories, the reader will find a game board we’ll invent. On a folded poster 4 to 8 times the size of the book, we’ll draw a game board based on the Game of the Goose. Each square of the game will reproduce elements of our two stories and a list aside will explain which rule corresponds to which image. Four drawings will illustrate the board, four small dialogues between the kids.
On a cardboard the size of the book, the reader will have the possibility to cut and paste two dices and four pawns representing our kids.

Last day

September 21, 2009

Last day of our very short residency in Angouleme. Thick fog all over the city. Amélie has just realized that her story board works better by adding another page and by changing the order of the double-pages. At this stage, one less, one more… what does it matter? However not convinced by the dialogues of this new page… Write and rewrite and rewriter… the never ending process of the story board…

Some pictures of our residency in Angoulême…

Which color, whoch profile, which attitudes?? Looking for Tom’s identity… more a leader, active, strong character, prefers to keep the doubts away…

Leo

September 20, 2009

Leo is one of the two boys of Amélie’s comics. A bit shy, more sensitive than his cousin, dreamy sometimes, more a follower than a leader but when it comes to defending his point of view,  he can be firm.

Thanks Rommel for your tips with photoshop…

Day 6

September 20, 2009

Old cars have invaded the city (Circuit des Remparts), the city is full of noise, gaz and beautiful old engins and English passionated collectors.  Too bad for the weather: rain, rain, rain… Amélie rewrote her dialogues in French, Rommel continued to work on his storyboard, exploring Snakes and Laders, Hopskotch and possibilities to expand the format of his comics. At dinner, discussions on the title(s) of our book,  its layout, quotes, and on the board game we’ll invent together. Another visit to the bookshop of the Comics Museum and Thomas Gosselin, with whom we share the atelier, gave us copies of the last issue of Lapin… Who said “early bed time”??

Day 4

September 17, 2009

We brainstormed on Amelie’s story board. Very interesting dicussion, it’s good to have a critical exchange, something that was more difficult by internet during the previous weeks. Now, back to work to modify some parts of the story board…

Residency Day 2

September 15, 2009

Heavy rain over Angoulême.  PieR Gajewski came to the atelier to say hello. We’ve planned a visit of the Comics Museum next Friday or Saturday. We are now working on our story boards. We are reviewing some of our previous ideas. It would have been great to be able to meet in the beginning of our collaboration! It’s much easier now to communicate since we know each other and can work face to face. After some discussions, we decided to write our comics in our own language and have them translated later.  And a few good books, to get inspired…
